Position Summary
Our
Senior System Administrator at PTR is responsible for the maintenance, configuration, and reliable operation of computer systems, networks, and servers. The Sr. System Administrator will lead and participate in 8 areas of Infrastructure management: Service Desk, Incident/Change/Asset Management, End-User Device Management, Communications/Collaboration/Telephony, Core Infrastructure, Cloud, BC/DR, and Infrastructure Operations and Management. This role will install and support hardware and software, participate in research and development to continuously improve and keep up with the IT needs of the organization, and tune computer software systems and network connections to ensure high levels of availability and optimal functioning of the supported business applications.
The Sys Admin role will have Help Desk responsibilities and will be part of our IT service management and technology support services team and will participate in the planning and implementation of policies and procedures to ensure system provisioning, maintenance, and monitoring that is consistent with company goals, industry best practices, continuous improvement, and compliance requirements. The Senior System Administrator will report to the IT Director of Infrastructure, Operations, & Security.
Compensation
This position has a competitive compensation package that is a combination of base salary plus profit sharing paid quarterly after 1 year of employment.

Responsibilities
- Service Desk
- Monitor and resolve Help Desk tickets
- Support and build out knowledgebase and contribute to knowledge management
- Provide support to IT systems including implementations and day-to-day operations, monitor and problem resolution for all the client/server/storage/network devices, mobile devices, etc.
- Incident, Change, and Asset Management
- Provide Tier 1 (Help Desk) and Tier 2 (Escalation) problem identification, diagnose, and resolve problems per ITIL processes and methods
- Hardware, asset, and equipment currency tracking, inventory, and reporting
- Lead design and documentation and tabletops for Incident Response Plan
- Network asset management; maintenance of network component inventory and documentation including technical specifications information
- Anticipate, mitigate, identify, troubleshoot, and resolve hardware and software problems on servers, input/output fleet, and workstations and related incidents
- End-User Device Management
- Support ordering of new equipment in time for new hires, etc.
- Workstation, printers, scanners, laptops, phones, conference room tech maintenance.
- Manage MDM, end-user accounts, permissions, access rights, and storage allocations.
- Communications, Collaboration, Network & Telephony
- D365, Teams, Sharepoint platform administration, documentation, and training.
- Network engineering/DBA coordination for desktop/server system implementation.
- Design, implement, and maintain network infrastructure, including switches, routers, firewalls, and VPNs.
- Monitor network traffic and performance, identifying and resolving issues to optimize efficiency and reliability.
- Implement and enforce network security measures to protect against unauthorized access, malware, and other threats.
- Communications and connection solutions management, including workstation connectivity, LAN, website, intranet, and internet applications.
- Configure and maintain VPNs and other remote access solutions to facilitate secure connectivity for remote users and branches.
- Core Infrastructure & Operations
- Manage IT system infrastructure and any processes related to these systems.
- Infrastructure capacity planning. Optimize system operations and resource utilization and perform system capacity analysis and planning.
- Monitor system performance and reliability, implementing proactive measures to prevent downtime or disruptions.
- Ensure compatibility of all software applications with IT Infrastructure.
- Maintain network, servers, routers, firewalls, access points, & hardware components including scheduling/management of software & hardware upgrades, patches, reconfiguration, and purchases.
- Monitor & analyze system, server, application, network, and input/output device performance.
- Configure and manage UNIX and Windows (or other applicable) operating systems and install/load operating system software, troubleshoot, maintain the integrity of, and configure network components, along with implementing operating system enhancements to improve reliability and performance.
- Manage the daily activities of configuration and operation of IT systems.
- Deploy and maintain virtual machines, containers, and other cloud resources to support organizational needs
- Support of application development and project SDLC stages
- Install, configure, and troubleshoot server operating systems and software
- Design, deploy, configure, and maintain virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) solutions to meet the organization's needs
- Cloud
- Cloud account administration and licensing and cost management
- Operating system, infrastructure, and platforms as a service management
- Design, implement, and manage Azure cloud-based infrastructure and services
- Deploy and maintain virtual machines, containers, and other cloud resources to support organizational needs
- Optimize cloud resources for cost efficiency and scalability, monitoring usage and performance metrics
- Implement cloud security best practices, including identity and access management, encryption, and compliance controls
- Work closely with development teams to facilitate the deployment & operation of apps
- Resilience: DRP/BCP
- Perform and test routine system backups restores and recovery
- Design and document disaster recovery plan and support/lead table tops aligned to the business continuity plan
- Infrastructure and Operations Management
- Negotiate with / manage vendors, outsourcers, contractors, etc. for optimal services
- Develop and maintain policies, procedures, and training plans for system administration
- Other technical duties as assigned
Requirements
- MUST HAVE
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field (or equivalent work experience).
- Proven experience (10+ Years) in a senior or lead systems administration role, with a strong background in managing enterprise IT infrastructure
- Five (5) years experience in Computer Network Operations to include:
- TCP/IP, networks, computer configuration, remote manipulation of systems (FTP, mapping drives, share accounts), remote monitoring and administration.
- Sun Solaris, HP-UNIX, Linux, VMS, and Windows operating systems administration to include shell scripting and XML
- Networking equipment and router operations
- Experience with cloud computing platforms and services, primarily Azure
- In-depth knowledge of server and network technologies, including Windows Server, Linux/Unix, Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, TCP/IP, VLANs, VPNs, and firewalls
- Knowledge of network, PC, and platform operating systems
- Working technical knowledge of current systems software, protocols, and standards including firewalls, Active Directory, and more.
- NICE TO HAVE
- Possess a working knowledge and understanding of system administration interdependencies as part of the Service Oriented Architecture (SOA)
- Relevant certifications (e.g., MCSE, CCNA, AWS Certified SysOps Administrator, Azure Administrator) are a plus
- Experience with databases, networks, and patch management
- Knowledge of system security and data backup/recovery methodologies
- Strong knowledge of local area network administration
- Managing virtual desktop pools, images, and user profiles
