The United American Indian Involvement (UAII) is seeking new members for its Board of Directors. The UAII Board of Directors provides oversight and counsel on planning and policy development, financial oversight, and resource development.

Mission Statement To promote and support the physical, behavioral, and spiritual well-being of American Indian/Alaska Natives in the urban Los Angeles and Orange Counties by providing comprehensive, integrated services that focus on all age groups and incorporate American Indian/Alaska Native cultures and traditions. Vision Statement UAII will provide quality physical and behavioral health, education, and social support services that promote healthy lifestyles and individual responsibility in order to strengthen American Indian/Alaska Native communities, now and for future generations. All services will integrate traditions, practices, and beliefs, be culturally sensitive and respectful of American Indian/Alaska Native tribal affiliation.
BOARD RESPONSIBILITIES
The Board of Directors (Board) will support the work of United American Indian Involvement, Inc. (UAII) and provide mission-based leadership and strategic governance. While day-to-day operations are led by UAII’s Leadership (Chief Executive Officer, Chief Operations Officer, Chief Clinical Officer, and Chief Financial Officer), the Board and Executive Leadership relationship is a partnership. The appropriate involvement of the Board, as described in the bylaws, is both critical and expected. As the entrusted leadership body of UAII and to satisfy its fiduciary duties, the Board is responsible for the following:
- Managing the mission, vision, and purpose of UAII
- Selecting, advising, and evaluating the performance of the C-Suite Level Executives
- Strategic and organizational planning
- Approving and monitoring the viability of UAII’s programs and services
- Ensuring strong fiduciary oversight and financial management
- Approving UAII’s annual budget, and material business decisions
- Fundraising and resource development
- Enhancing and promoting UAII’s public image
- Assessing its performance as the governing body of UAII
Specific Board Member responsibilities include:
- Understanding the mission, vision, and purpose of UAII
- UAII adopted a shared decision-making model. The Board is responsible for the ongoing development of the Executive leadership team and performance evaluations of the Chief Executive Officer (COO), Chief Financial Officer (CFO), Chief Operating Officer (COO), and Chief Information Officer (CIO).
- Attending, preparing, and actively participating in monthly Board and strategic planning meetings.
- Serving on committees or task forces and taking on special assignments.
- Comprehending and adhering to UAII’s bylaws, policies, and all legal and fiduciary responsibilities.
- Understand financial statements or commit to learning about non-profit financial oversight.
- Serving as an active advocate and ambassador for UAII by leveraging connections, networks, and resources to benefit UAII's public standing.
- Committing to professional development by attending mandatory Board training and additional training and conferences hosted by other organizations.
- Identifying and securing the financial resources and partnerships necessary for UAII to advance its mission.
- Ensuring Board resolutions are carried out.
- Maintaining confidentiality about all UAII internal matters.
- Board members must actively engage with the Native American community, build relationships, and collaborate with other organizations.
BOARD TERMS
- UAII Board Members serve a 3-year term and are eligible for reappointment.
- Board meetings are held monthly, generally on the third Monday of the month.
- Special Meetings, Committee meetings, and Board training are held as deemed necessary by the Board.
