VICE PRESIDENT OF ENGINEERING

The Vice President of Engineering is responsible for all research, development, and demonstration (RD&D) activities required to commercialize the company’s proprietary nuclear fuel technologies, including the development of advanced metallic fuel for power uprates and cycle length extension. The role provides technical oversight and direction for RD&D activities, coordination with partner entities, management of Lightbridge engineers and technical consultants working on nuclear fuel designs and/or fabrication technologies. Responsibilities also include all activities related to fabrication of Lightbridge’s advanced nuclear fuel technologies.

The Lightbridge Vice President of Engineering will:

· Lead Lightbridge’s technical and engineering activities for global nuclear fuel development and commercialization.

· Lead the implementation of a nuclear fuel research, development, and demonstration program utilizing a multi-disciplinary team of employees, corporate partners, national laboratories, and universities.

· Develop and manage budget for all fuel development and fuel fabrication business activities.

· Identify staffing needs and recruit new employees for the fuel development and fuel fabrication business.

· Manage direct reports, train, coach, and mentor employees in the fuel development and fuel fabrication business.

· Work with the Lightbridge Quality Assurance Manager to implement the company’s QA program within the fuel development and fuel fabrication business and ensure compliance therewith among subordinate personnel.

· Provide strategic advice on nuclear power and fuel cycle projects for Lightbridge and its partners, including technology evaluation, development, and regulatory compliance.

· Lead the Lightbridge technical advisory board comprised of experienced industry veterans to ensure corporate activities are aligned with customer expectations and standard regulatory practices.

· Assist with management of the company’s global intellectual property portfolio, including authoring and review of new patents and filings.

· Support corporate and investor relations communications efforts via conference participation and providing input to, and/or giving, presentations.

· Represent the company at various regulatory agencies, both domestic and international, and ensure corporate activities in fuel development and fuel fabrication are aligned with industry standards.

· Support the company’s pursuit of external fundraising, including via federal grant opportunities with planning, grant writing, and technical review.

Minimum Job Requirements

Education:

· Master of Science in Nuclear Engineering or related field.

· PhD in Nuclear Engineering or related field preferred.

Experience:

· Minimum of 15+ years professional experience in the nuclear industry.

· Minimum of 10+ years in leadership role managing multi-disciplinary teams of nuclear engineers and subject matter experts.

· Experience recruiting nuclear talent and building up a well-functioning R&D organization balancing in-house needs vs. outsourced nuclear fuel development and fuel fabrication expertise.

· Expertise in nuclear fuel development and advanced fabrication methods, including their development, demonstration, validation, and qualification.

· Expertise in nuclear reactor design and operation and US and international nuclear regulatory compliance.

Skills:

· Leadership skills, including the ability to manage time effectively and handle both internal and external conflicts.

· Ability to organize effectively, delegate responsibility, and solve problems quickly.

· Skill in working with diverse, multi-disciplinary teams as both a team leader and member.

· Self-motivated leader with the ability to manage diverse ongoing projects.

· Excellent communication skills (verbal, presentation, and written).

Preferred Qualifications

· Experience with lean manufacturing principles and their application in industrial settings.

· Experience with processing and handling of pyrophoric, reactive, and radioactive materials, including uranium.

· Takes initiative, exercises sound judgment and maturity.

· Comfortable in complex project or business environments.

· Ability to find innovative solutions to complex problems with multiple constraints.

· Knowledge of U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission regulations and requirements applicable to nuclear fuel manufacturing facilities.

Job Location

Duties are typically performed indoors primarily in a home office environment. Frequent travel required to our partner lab facility, Idaho National Laboratory, located in Idaho Falls, Idaho. Additional travel will include Lightbridge home office in Reston, VA and other locations, including international, as needed.
